Project: Private Residence | Location: Faucon, Vaucluse | Budget: Undisclosed | Amenities: Guest House, Swimming Pool | Phase: Construction

This project involves the restoration of a traditional Provencal Mas or farmhouse, positioned facing south across the steep landscapes around Mont Ventoux.  The concept behind our proposal of this dwelling and guest house, which in themselves had been the subject of a 1990’s renovation, was to reinstate and restore areas of damaged roof or crumbling stonework, intervening only to reduce solar gain and improve the energy performance of the building.  Doors and windows, all unoriginal, were replaced with tripled glazed units, in timber to the first floor, and steel to the ground.  The unusual dusty blue colour found on the original shutters being repeated for the painting of timber window frames and finishing of steel doors.  A new exterior hard landscaping element was proposed, alongside adjoining hardwood pergola attached to the Mas, both to improve the use of the outdoor areas around the dwelling, and to act as a screen for summer sun.  A small auxiliary building is proposed to be reconfigured into a guesthouse overlooking a swimming pool, with its own cantilevered pergola and terrace arrangement.
